Design & Inspiration
Place this pedestal in a salon, entrance hall, or reception room and the architecture of the space immediately sharpens. The central marble column, rising from a brass-ringed base to a full gilt Corinthian capital, draws the eye upward before the gaze settles on the marble-topped platform above — a surface designed to carry a bust, a vase, or a single sculptural object with the authority it deserves. This is a piece that organises a room simply by existing in it.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Faithfully reproduced in the tradition of French Empire and early Neoclassical display furniture, this pedestal is built from Romanian solid redwood (below 10% humidity) finished in a deep French-polished mahogany tone. The outer case panels are framed in hand-applied antique gold brass mouldings — the upper frieze featuring a central rosette medallion flanked by scrolling foliate arabesques cast in gilt brass, a motif drawn directly from the Percier and Fontaine design vocabulary of the Consulate period. The lower plinth carries a shaped cartouche panel in matching ormolu-finish brass. At the structural and visual heart of the piece, a veined grey marble column — its shaft richly figured — rises on a gilt brass bell-shaped base and terminates in a fully rendered Corinthian capital in antique gold, with acanthus leaves curling outward at each corner. The marble top surface completes the composition.
Dimensions & Details
The pedestal is designed as a standalone architectural element suitable for formal interiors. The open-sided case construction allows the marble column to be visible from multiple angles, creating depth and visual interest without bulk. Weight is approximately 5 kg. Dimensions are available on request — customisation of height, finish tone, and brass patina is offered.
Handcrafted in Egypt
Every element of this pedestal is assembled by hand at the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt. The brass friezes are individually cast and hand-finished to an antique gold patina; the wood panels are French-polished by hand; and the Corinthian capital is hand-detailed before gilding. This is not a mass-produced decorative column — it is a considered reproduction of an architectural furniture tradition that shaped the interiors of Napoleonic France and continues to define formal rooms across the world.
