There is a particular challenge in designing a television console that belongs to the same room as a gilded mirror and a carved sofa. Most modern media units retreat into function; this one refuses to. Drawing from the design vocabulary of Louis XV's court cabinetmakers — the ébénistes who gave French Rococo its identity — this console commands the wall with the same authority as any classic salon piece, while quietly accommodating the demands of contemporary living.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is constructed from Romanian solid redwood dried to below 10% humidity, ensuring dimensional stability across seasons. The drawer fronts are faced with richly figured burl veneer — each panel displaying a distinct swirling grain pattern that catches the light differently at every angle. The top surface combines a solid wood border with a contrasting burl field, framed by a clean moulding that anchors the composition. Four antique gold brass pulls in the scrolling foliate style of the Louis XV period are fitted to the four drawers, each cast with the crisp floral detail that identifies a quality hardware fitting. The cabriole legs — the defining silhouette of the Rococo era — terminate in scroll feet and rise through a gently swelling knee to join the carved apron, where a central shell motif (rocaille) is flanked by acanthus scrollwork.

The console offers two open shelf compartments at centre height — appropriately dimensioned for media equipment — flanked on each side by two stacked drawers with burl-veneered fronts. The low, wide proportions are calibrated for placement below a wall-mounted screen without competing with it visually. Four carved cabriole legs in solid redwood provide stable support and define the piece's Rococo silhouette from every angle. The French polish finish brings out the warm cherry tones of the wood while providing a surface that can be maintained and restored over decades of use.
