The SALCHA1960 bergère draws its soul from the golden age of French furniture — the reign of Louis XV, when cabinetmakers elevated every curve into a statement of refined luxury. The sweeping cabriole legs, the softly winged back, and the sinuous apron speak a vocabulary of Rococo grace that has never gone out of fashion. Brass & Wood reinterprets this iconic silhouette for modern living rooms without surrendering a single detail of its aristocratic pedigree.
Materials & Finishes
The frame is constructed from kiln-dried solid hardwood, shaped and carved entirely by hand before receiving a deep, hand-rubbed dark finish that accentuates the sculptural lines. Every exposed surface is dressed with cast ormolu-style mounts in an antique-gold tone: floral rosettes on the apron, trailing laurel sprigs along the uprights, and an elaborate floral crown at the crest rail. The upholstery is a sumptuous pale-blue and champagne damask — a jacquard-woven fabric whose tone-on-tone floral medallions shift beautifully in changing light. Cushioned seat and back panels deliver generous comfort without compromising the chair's elegant proportions.
Craftsmanship
Each piece is made to order in Brass & Wood's Egyptian atelier by artisans trained in classical European joinery and gilding. The bronze mounts are individually cast, hand-finished, and fitted by nail and screw — never glued — ensuring longevity worthy of a heirloom. Upholstery is hand-cut and hand-fitted over high-density foam cores, with fabric seams aligned to the damask repeat for a perfectly tailored finish.
