Rooted in the golden age of French court furniture, this barrel-back salon chair — known in French tradition as a fauteuil cabriolet — captures the exuberance and refined sensuality of the Louis XV period. The gently curved barrel back embraces the sitter with aristocratic grace, while every curve of the frame flows with the organic, nature-inspired movement that defines mid-18th-century French craftsmanship. Brass & Wood has faithfully recreated this iconic silhouette for the modern interior, bringing centuries of Parisian grandeur into today's living spaces.
Materials & Finish
The solid wood frame is finished in a rich, dark tone and adorned with elaborate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts at the crest rail, apron, and leg capitals — the hallmark of high French cabinetmaking. The exterior side panels showcase hand-executed marquetry work, depicting flowing floral and foliage motifs inlaid with contrasting wood veneers. The seat, inside back, and inside arms are upholstered in a pale blue damask fabric woven with a tonal gold arabesque pattern, offering a luxurious yet harmonious contrast to the warm dark frame.
Craftsmanship
Every detail of this chair is produced by Brass & Wood's master artisans in Egypt, where traditional hand-carving, marquetry inlay, and bronze casting techniques are preserved and passed down through generations. The gilt bronze hardware is individually cast and hand-finished to an antique gold lustre, then secured to the frame with meticulous joinery. The upholstery is cut and fitted by hand to follow the flowing contours of the barrel back, ensuring a tailored finish consistent with the finest European atelier traditions.
