Design & Inspiration

Rooted in the refined elegance of the Louis XVI era, this tea trolley — known in French as a table à thé roulante — embodies the Neoclassical pursuit of symmetry, restraint, and luxurious ornament. Its three-tiered structure evokes the grandeur of Versailles salons, where such pieces graced intimate gatherings and ceremonial tea services alike. Brass & Wood has faithfully interpreted this aristocratic form, breathing new life into a centuries-old tradition of French court craftsmanship.

Materials & Finish

The shelves and surfaces are veneered in richly figured amboyna burl, a prized exotic wood celebrated for its warm amber hues and dramatic bird's-eye patterning. The solid mahogany framework provides a deep, contrasting ground that anchors the composition. Every mount, gallery rail, scrolled bracket, and tapered column capital is cast and chased in genuine gilded bronze — ormolu of the highest order — replicating the hand-finished quality of 18th-century Parisian bronziers. The interior drawer is lined in deep crimson velvet, adding a jewel-box intimacy to this functional work of art.

Craftsmanship

Each trolley is individually produced in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt by skilled artisans trained in European classical techniques. The bronze ormolu elements are cast, hand-chased, and mercury-gilt to achieve the characteristic warm gold lustre. Marquetry veneering, hand-polished lacquer, and bespoke brass gallery fittings bring each piece to museum-quality standards. The trolley moves gracefully on period-style brass castors, combining historic authenticity with everyday practicality.
