Description

Design & Inspiration

This magnificent writing desk draws its soul from the golden age of Louis XV France, when the Rococo movement transformed furniture into living sculpture. Sweeping acanthus-leaf scrollwork, playful floral motifs, and sinuous curves define every surface, evoking the opulent salons of Versailles. Brass & Wood's master artisans in Egypt have faithfully re-imagined this icon of 18th-century grandeur, ensuring every line and ornament honours the original spirit.

Materials & Finish

The desk is constructed from premium solid wood with a deep, book-matched veneer in warm rosewood and satinwood tones, creating a dramatic herringbone and parquet pattern on the apron panels. The top is dressed in an elaborate hand-cut marquetry tableau featuring a central flower basket surrounded by symmetrical floral sprays — a hallmark of the finest period workshops. All mounts, corner guards, sabots, and the central apron cartouche are cast in solid brass and hand-finished to an antique gilt-bronze lustre, adding warm golden accents that echo the richness of ormolu.

Craftsmanship

Every joint is hand-fitted by Brass & Wood's seasoned cabinet-makers, while the marquetry is individually cut and laid piece by piece. The tapered, fluted legs — capped with polished brass sabots — demonstrate the refined elegance that distinguishes Louis XV from later, more severe neoclassical styles. The single frieze drawer features a sculpted Rococo brass pull framed by foliate scrolls, combining function with uncompromising decorative flair.
