Description

Design Inspiration

Drawing directly from the grandeur of early 19th-century Napoleonic Empire interiors, this coffee table embodies the era's defining vocabulary: bold contrasts of ebonised black and burnished gold, the triumphant laurel wreath as a central motif, and the disciplined geometry of Neoclassical line-work. The piece channels the opulence of Fontainebleau and the Tuileries Palace into a functional centrepiece for the modern luxury interior.

Materials & Finish

The tabletop is finished in deep, mirror-like black lacquer edged with crisp ivory lacquer banding, while a hand-carved silver-leaf laurel wreath crowns its centre. The apron is crafted from solid wood and entirely covered in relief-carved anthemion and palmette motifs, finished with genuine gold leaf. The legs are turned in solid wood, alternating ebonised black sections with gold-leaf-gilded acanthus capitals and hairy-paw feet. The curved stretcher beneath is painted in ivory with ebonised accents, completing the tricolour Empire palette of black, white and gold.

Craftsmanship

Every element of this table is shaped, carved and finished entirely by hand in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt. Master craftsmen apply multiple coats of lacquer, hand-burnished between each layer, before applying genuine gold leaf through traditional water-gilding and silver leaf through oil-gilding techniques. The result is a surface depth and warmth impossible to replicate by machine. Each piece is a unique, signed work of applied art.
