There are pieces of furniture that hold a room's attention without demanding it. This round center table — faithfully reproduced in the tradition of Napoleon III Rococo Revival, the mid-19th century's most theatrical interpretation of Louis XV's original vocabulary — is one of them. Its circular silhouette commands the salon floor, while the deeply pierced and carved gilt apron below the top draws the eye through layers of acanthus leaves, swaged garlands, cartouche medallions, and scrolling foliage. At the center of the apron, a sunburst rosette anchors the entire composition. The four cabriole legs, carved and gilt from knee to scroll foot, rise to meet the apron with carved acanthus knee blocks that cascade downward in relief. A scrolling cross-stretcher terminates in a central finial urn — a Rococo conceit that signals this table was designed not merely to hold objects, but to be one.
The frame is built from Romanian Solid Redwood seasoned to under 10% humidity — a hardwood dense enough to hold the precision of deep relief carving without splitting over time. Every element of the apron and legs is hand-carved: the pierced lattice of the apron frieze, the acanthus clusters at each knee, the feather-like gadroon border encircling the top edge, and the scrolled feet. The gilding is applied in the traditional manner over gesso, creating the warm, slightly matte gold tone characteristic of quality 19th-century French Revival pieces — not the flat metallic brightness of spray-applied finishes. The top is set with a slab of genuine Nero Marquina marble: a Spanish black marble distinguished by its dramatic white veining, cool to the touch and impervious to the daily wear that would mark a wood surface.
The round table format makes it equally suitable as a luxury salon coffee table, a grand entry hall center piece, or a focal point in a formal reception room. The proportions — wide enough to command attention, low enough for salon conversation — follow the Rococo tradition of tables designed for the art of gathering. The carved stretcher system beneath provides both structural integrity and visual completeness: the table reads as a unified sculpture from every angle of approach.
This piece is produced in Egypt by Brass & Wood artisans trained in European classical carving and gilding traditions. Each table leaves the workshop as a unique object — the hand-carving ensures no two are precisely identical in the depth and texture of their relief. Customization is available in marble color, gilding tone, and overall scale, making it possible to commission a piece precisely calibrated to your interior.
The frame is hand-carved Romanian Solid Redwood (seasoned to under 10% humidity) with a traditional gesso-and-gilt finish. The table top is genuine Nero Marquina marble — a black Spanish marble with characteristic white veining.
Minimal assembly is required — the marble top is shipped separately and set onto the frame upon delivery to prevent transit damage. The process takes minutes and requires no tools.
