Rooted in the refined elegance of the Louis XVI court, this open étagère captures the spirit of late 18th-century French neoclassicism. Its serpentine-front shelves, pierced brass galleries, and imposing ormolu cresting echo the masterworks produced by the royal ébénistes of Versailles — pieces intended to display porcelain, objets d'art, and books with theatrical grandeur.
The carcass is constructed from solid mahogany with a deep, hand-rubbed burgundy-toned lacquer finish that reveals the wood's natural flame figuring. Every brass element — from the acanthus-leaf capitals and swan-neck mounts to the pierced gallery rails and tapered column collars — is cast in solid brass and hand-chased to an antique gold finish, replicating the warmth of original 18th-century ormolu. Six fluted, tapered legs are capped with polished brass sabots.
Each piece is handcrafted in Brass & Wood's Egyptian atelier by artisans trained in classical European joinery and decorative metalwork. Mortise-and-tenon joinery reinforces the structure, while individually cast brass ornaments are fitted and burnished by hand. The result is a collector-grade reproduction faithful in proportion, ornament, and spirit to its historical source.
