Set this pedestal in the corner of a reception room and it immediately draws the eye — not with a single dramatic gesture but with the cumulative weight of detail that only reveals itself slowly. The circular crown, the spiralling central column, the scrolling cabriole feet: each element is resolved with the kind of thoroughness that characterises French Baroque furniture at its most confident. This piece is faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the Louis XIV atelier, where display pedestals were as much expressions of prestige as they were functional objects.
Carved from Romanian solid redwood (kiln-dried to below 10% humidity for dimensional stability), the body is finished in a warm ivory lacquer that offsets the selectively applied gold highlighting on the relief surfaces. The carving is executed across multiple registers: rose clusters and acanthus leaves cascade down the apron, eagle-head mounts anchor the junctions between the crown and the legs, and the central column is spirally twisted — a motif borrowed directly from the Baroque architectural vocabulary of Bernini's baldachin columns. The scroll feet are carved in the round with additional leaf ornament at the knuckle, completing the vertical narrative of the piece.
Weight: 5.0 kg. The circular top well is designed to receive a vase, urn, jardiniére, or sculptural object. The pedestal's proportions are calibrated for floor placement — the height positions a displayed object at standing eye level, making it ideal as a statement plinth in an entrance hall, salon, or formal reception room.
Every cut on this pedestal was made by hand in Brass & Wood's Egyptian workshop by craftsmen trained in classical European carving traditions. The ivory lacquer finish and selective gold highlighting are applied in separate stages, ensuring clean definition between the carved relief and the ground — a quality of finish only achievable by hand. No two pieces are identical; minor variations in the carving are the natural mark of handcraft, not imperfection.
The pedestal is carved from Romanian solid redwood with a kiln-dried humidity level below 10%. The finish is ivory lacquer with hand-applied gold highlighting on the relief carving. No inlay materials are used — all decoration is achieved through carving and selective gilding.
Minimal assembly is required — the central column section and crown may be packed separately for shipping protection and require simple placement and securing on arrival.
