Description

Design & Inspiration

There is a particular kind of presence that certain objects carry — not through scale alone, but through the density of intention carved into every surface. This Louis XV Rococo gilded jardinière pedestal stand belongs to that category. Faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the great French ébéniste workshops of the 1730–1770 period, it rises from three sweeping cabriole legs into a lidded urn bowl of exceptional decorative complexity. Place it in a hallway and it commands attention from the moment a guest crosses the threshold.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Crafted from Romanian solid redwood (seasoned to below 10% humidity for dimensional stability), every element of this pedestal is hand-carved — not machine-routed. The three cabriole legs emerge from acanthus-leaf knee mounts and terminate in scroll feet, meeting at a carved triangular cross-stretcher at mid-height. The urn bowl itself is wrapped in a dense weave of hand-carved interlaced basketwork and feather-scroll motifs, crowned by a stepped lid with a finial. The warm gold lacquer finish unifies the entire composition, catching light differently across convex and concave surfaces.

Dimensions & Details

The slender tripod silhouette gives this piece visual lightness despite the density of its ornament — a hallmark of the Louis XV designer's instinct to never let decoration become burden. The lower stretcher, itself carved with geometric reserves and a central turned boss, provides structural integrity while adding another layer of decorative interest. Dimensions are available on request; weight is approximately 5 kg.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Each piece leaves the Brass & Wood workshop in Egypt after individual hand-carving and finishing by craftsmen trained in the European classical tradition. The gold lacquer is applied in multiple coats, hand-rubbed between layers to achieve the warm, even tone visible in the images. Customization of finish color, dimensions, and ornamental density is available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this piece made from?

The pedestal is hand-carved entirely from Romanian solid redwood (less than 10% humidity), finished with a multi-coat gold lacquer applied and rubbed by hand. No composite wood or MDF is used in the frame.

Is assembly required?

Minimal assembly is required — the lidded urn bowl seats onto the pedestal top and the legs may be attached on-site. Full instructions are included.

Can this be customized?

Yes. Brass & Wood offers customization of finish color (antique gold, silver leaf, painted), overall height, and surface ornament density. Please contact us with your requirements before placing your order.
