Place this pedestal in a room and it immediately becomes the room's axis. The eye travels upward from the stepped square base — trimmed with antique gold ormolu cartouches and foliate corner mounts — along the tapered fluted column shaft, pauses at the hand-painted landscape medallion at its waist, and arrives at the octagonal marble top prepared to receive whatever sculpture, bust, or decorative object you place upon it. This is a piece conceived not as background, but as participant.
Faithfully reproduced in the tradition of late 18th-century French Neoclassical design, this pedestal is hand-built from Romanian solid redwood (kiln-dried to below 10% humidity) and finished in a chalk-white painted ground — the correct ground for the period's preference for painted boiserie and lacquered surfaces. The column shaft is carved with vertical fluting, each channel edged in burnished antique gold, referencing the classical Ionic and Doric columns that Louis XVI's court architects drew from obsessively. The capital and base rings are mounted with pressed gilt medallions in the ovoid wreath form characteristic of the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary. At the column's midpoint, a turned spherical node is hand-painted with a romantic landscape in the tradition of Sèvres porcelain decoration — a river scene with trees and soft autumnal light, bordered by a fine gilt rope-twist band. The octagonal top is a slab of dark veined marble, adding visual weight exactly where the eye expects it.
Weight: 5.0 kg. Dimensions: available on request — this pedestal is also offered in customized heights to suit specific display requirements. The octagonal marble top accommodates busts, urns, jardinieres, or sculptural objects. The stepped base provides stable footing on parquet, stone, or tile floors.
Every pedestal is built and finished by hand in Brass & Wood's Egyptian workshops — a tradition of craft that draws on centuries of woodworking knowledge. The painted landscape medallion is applied by a trained decorative painter; the gilt mounts are individually pressed and affixed. No two pieces are precisely identical, which is exactly as it should be for a handcrafted object.
The column body is Romanian solid redwood with a painted antique white finish. Decorative mounts are antique gold gilt pressed ornaments. The top is a natural dark-veined marble slab. The hand-painted landscape medallion is applied directly to the turned wood sphere.
No assembly is required. The pedestal arrives fully assembled and ready to place.
