Description

Royal Rococo Heritage

Inspired by the opulent court furniture of eighteenth-century France, this Louis XV bombe commode embodies the exuberance of the Rococo movement. Its dramatically curved silhouette, swelling outward on all planes, recalls the finest pieces crafted for Versailles and the grand hôtels particuliers of Paris. Brass & Wood reinterprets this timeless archetype for the contemporary collector who demands both historical authenticity and enduring luxury.

Materials & Finish

The carcass is constructed from kiln-dried solid wood for structural integrity, then veneered in matched kingwood — a prized rosewood variety celebrated for its deep mahogany-violet tones and dramatic feather grain. Every panel is book-matched and hand-polished to a luminous gloss. The ormolu mounts — scrolling acanthus cartouches, foliate corner sabots, and a central trophy escutcheon — are cast in solid brass and hand-chased before receiving a warm antique-gold patina finish that echoes authentic eighteenth-century gilded bronze.

Craftsmanship & Detail

Each commode is assembled entirely by hand in Brass & Wood's Cairo atelier. The serpentine top features a shaped moulded edge and is crowned with a delicate brass floral mount at its centre. Two deep drawers glide on hand-fitted wooden runners, their façades flowing seamlessly into the bombé curve below. Gracefully splayed cabriole legs, shod in scrolled brass sabots, complete the piece with the lightness and elegance that define the Louis XV idiom.

Placement & Versatility

Equally at home as an entrance hall statement piece, a dining room sideboard, or a bedroom commode, this chest of drawers brings Ancien Régime grandeur to any interior. It pairs beautifully with gilded mirrors, Aubusson rugs, and silk drapery, yet holds its own alongside more contemporary furnishings as a bold focal accent.
