Description

Design Inspiration

Rooted in the refined elegance of 18th-century French royal interiors, this commode draws directly from the Louis XVI tradition — where symmetry, restrained opulence, and botanical motifs reigned supreme. The serpentine façade, oval medallion panel, and scrolling acanthus marquetry echo the grandeur of Versailles at its most cultivated.

Materials

The body is constructed from solid rosewood and kingwood veneers, their rich grain arranged in a dramatic book-match parquetry pattern. A generously proportioned veined marble slab crowns the piece, introducing natural variation and cool luxury. Every metal accent — from the corner sabots and column escutcheons to the central keyhole cartouche — is cast in solid brass and finished in antique gilt bronze.

Craftsmanship

Each panel is individually hand-cut and assembled by Brass & Wood artisans using centuries-old marquetry techniques. Floral sprays, leafy tendrils, and urn motifs are inlaid in multiple contrasting wood species to achieve depth and dimensionality. Gilt-bronze mounts are hand-chased and burnished to a warm, luminous gold that deepens with age.

A Statement Piece for Exceptional Interiors

Whether placed in an entrance hall, a grand salon, or a principal bedroom, this commode commands attention while offering generous concealed storage behind its single arched door. It is a living homage to the golden age of French cabinet-making — built to endure for generations.
