Description

Design Inspiration

Evoking the opulent courts of eighteenth-century France, this Louis XV bombé commode draws its soul from the celebrated Rococo masters. The sweeping serpentine curves, the gilded cartouche framing a romantic pastoral scene — a nobleman serenading his beloved amid classical ruins — all echo the playful elegance that defined an era. Brass & Wood revives this golden chapter of European decorative arts, bringing it into the contemporary luxury interior.

Materials & Finish

The body is constructed from solid hardwood and veneered in hand-selected mahogany with a diamond-pattern parquetry marquetry. The front panel features a hand-painted oil-on-wood Rococo tableau depicting an aristocratic courtship scene, sealed beneath a deep lacquer glaze. All hardware — corner mounts, cartouche escutcheons, figural caryatid pilasters, foliate swags and sabots — is cast in solid brass and finished in antique gold (ormolu-style), lending a warm, luminous contrast against the dark timber.

Craftsmanship

Each piece is painstakingly assembled by Brass & Wood artisans in Egypt, using time-honoured joinery techniques. The bombé silhouette is shaped by hand, ensuring the characteristic outward swell of the drawer fronts and sides. The caryatid figures flanking the corners are individually cast and chased before gilding, achieving museum-quality relief detail. The hand-painted scene is executed by specialist decorative painters, replicating the soft tonality and romantic narrative of French Rococo porcelain painting.

A Statement for Every Grand Interior

Whether positioned as a hall console, a dining room buffet or a bedroom accent piece, this commode commands attention in any setting. It pairs effortlessly with Aubusson rugs, silk draperies and classical mirror frames, elevating your home to the standard of a Parisian hôtel particulier.
