There is a particular kind of presence that a well-proportioned side table brings to a bedroom or salon — not demanding attention, but rewarding it when given. This Louis XV Rococo side table draws from the rich tradition of Parisian ébénisterie at its most refined: the serpentine silhouette, the lively wood grain radiating outward across each drawer face, and the warm rouge marble top that catches the morning light. It is a piece that earns its place beside a bed or beneath a wall mirror, quietly anchoring the room.
The carcass is built from Romanian solid redwood dried to under 10% humidity, ensuring dimensional stability through the seasons. The exterior surfaces are dressed in richly figured mahogany veneers arranged in a sunburst marquetry pattern — a technique at the heart of French 18th-century cabinet-making — and finished to a deep French polish that allows the grain to speak through the surface rather than beneath it. The shaped top is fitted with a rouge marble slab, its veining providing a natural counterpoint to the geometric precision of the wood below. Framing every transition — the drawer surrounds, corner stiles, and apron edge — are hand-cast gilt bronze mounts: foliate sprays at the upper corners, acanthus-capped escutcheons at each drawer pull, and scrolled sabots wrapping the base of each slender cabriole leg.
The table stands on four elegantly tapered cabriole legs that terminate in gilt bronze sabots — a detail that lifts the piece visually from the floor and signals the quality of the ormolu work throughout. Two full-width drawers open on smooth-running wooden runners, their interiors finished in natural wood. The shaped apron follows the serpentine movement of the drawer fronts, creating an unbroken curve from side to side. The rouge marble top is profiled with a gilt bronze banding along its edge, tying the stone to the metalwork below.
This table is handcrafted at the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt by craftsmen trained in the European cabinet-making tradition. Each piece of marquetry veneer is cut and laid by hand; each bronze mount is individually cast, chased, and gilded. No two tables are identical — the grain pattern and marble veining ensure that. Customization of dimensions, wood tone, marble color, and brass finish is available on request.
The frame is Romanian solid redwood with mahogany marquetry veneers finished in French polish. The decorative mounts are hand-cast gilt bronze (ormolu), and the top is rouge marble with a gilt bronze edge banding.
The table features two full-width drawers, each fitted with a gilt bronze escutcheon pull. The drawers run on traditional wooden runners and are finished in natural wood on the interior.
