Description

Design & Inspiration

There are objects that do not merely occupy a space — they define it. This Neoclassical crystal urn vase, standing 47 cm tall atop an elaborately cast brass pedestal, commands the eye with the quiet authority of the great decorative arts tradition. Inspired by the covered urns and cassolettes that graced the mantlepieces and console tables of Louis XVI's Versailles, this piece faithfully reproduces the visual vocabulary of late 18th-century French court luxury: restrained classical form enriched by exuberant applied ornament.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The body is formed from clear, deeply ribbed crystal whose vertical flutes catch and fracture light with prismatic precision — a technique drawn from the celebrated ateliers of Baccarat and Saint-Louis. Encircling the widest point of the ovoid body is a finely cast brass festoon of roses, leaves, and blooms: a guirlande fleurie draped in the tradition of the Adam Brothers and Ange-Jacques Gabriel. The sweeping scroll handles, cast in solid brass and chased by hand, rise from acanthus terminals with dynamic Rococo energy, their reverse-scroll volutes echoing the C-scrolls of Meissonnier. The pedestal base is a tour de force in its own right: a square-form platform with corner volute feet, its surfaces alive with egg-and-dart moulding, acanthus relief, and a rope-bead collar that links it to the crystal stem above. Every brass element is hand-polished and finished to a warm, luminous tone.

Dimensions & Details

This covered urn measures 30 cm wide × 15 cm deep × 47 cm tall and weighs approximately 4 kg. The removable lid is crowned by a faceted crystal and brass finial, echoing the ribbing of the body. Its scale makes it ideal as a dining table centrepiece, a console table statement, or a symmetrical pair flanking a fireplace or entryway mirror. Available in multiple brass finish variants — Gold, Silver, and Antique Gold — to coordinate with any interior palette.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every piece that leaves the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt is the result of skilled hands, proven techniques, and an uncompromising standard of finish. Our brass-casters and crystal artisans work in the tradition of European court ateliers, combining hand-chasing, lost-wax casting, and hand-polishing to produce decorative objects worthy of the grandest classical interiors. This vase is not a mass-produced import — it is a handcrafted luxury object, made to endure and to delight across generations. Each piece ships from Egypt with full protective packaging designed for fragile crystal and brass.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials is this vase made from?

The body and lid are crafted from clear ribbed crystal. All decorative mounts — the handles, festoon swag, pedestal base, and finial — are cast from solid brass and hand-finished. No resin or plastic components are used.

Is this vase fragile? How should I care for it?

Yes, as with all fine crystal objects, this vase should be handled with care. Dust with a soft dry cloth. For the brass elements, a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth followed by a dry buff will maintain the lustre. Avoid abrasive cleaners. Periodic polishing of the brass with a suitable metal polish is recommended to preserve the finish.

Can this piece be customized?

Yes. Brass & Wood offers customization of the brass finish colour (Gold, Silver, Antique Gold). For bespoke commissions or bulk orders, please contact our atelier directly. Lead time for standard orders is 30–45 days.
