Description

Design Inspiration

Drawing directly from the golden age of French court furniture, this coffee table is an homage to the Louis XV aesthetic — a style defined by organic curves, asymmetric floral motifs, and the seamless marriage of richly decorated surfaces with sculptural form. The sunburst marquetry centrepiece, radiating outward in a symphony of warm mahogany and contrasting fruitwood veneers, is the visual heart of the piece, evoking the pastoral romance and artistic exuberance of 18th-century Versailles.

Materials & Finish

Constructed on a foundation of solid hardwood, the table is dressed in precision-cut mahogany veneers arranged in a book-matched diamond pattern. Intricate floral and scrollwork inlays in lighter tonewoods trace the curves of the surface in the tradition of the finest Parisian ébénistes. The apron and leg mounts are cast in solid brass and finished to a warm antique gilt patina, replicating authentic ormolu — hand-chased to reveal crisp acanthus leaves, floral garlands, and cartouche medallions. Legs sweep downward in the classic cabriole form, terminating in gilded sabots that anchor the piece with aristocratic poise.

Craftsmanship at Brass & Wood

Every element of this table is handcrafted in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt by artisans trained in the European classical tradition. The marquetry is laid by hand, one piece at a time, under close supervision to ensure seamless joins and tonal harmony across the surface. Brass mounts are individually cast, hand-filed, and polished before receiving their antiqued gilt finish. This is not reproduction furniture — it is the continuation of a living craft tradition.
