Description

Design & Inspiration

Set a table with this piece and the conversation shifts — not to what is served, but to what serves it. This two-tier crystal and brass étagère bonbonniere stand draws directly from the French Second Empire tradition of the mid-19th century, when the French table became as much a stage for decorative arts as for dining. The vertical axis of the stand — from the acanthus-cast footed base rising through a crystal ball node to a foliate brass collar and a scrolled cartouche handle at the crown — reads as a complete composition, designed to be seen from every angle.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Each of the two crystal platters is press-cut with a dense geometric field: radiating fan segments, scrolled medallions, and a serrated petal rim that catches light and scatters it across the table. The brass components — the four-footed base with deeply cast acanthus and scroll relief, the mid-stem leaf collar, the upper leaf cluster, and the crowned loop handle — are cast and hand-finished to achieve the warmth of aged metal. The central crystal sphere at the stem junction is a characteristically Second Empire detail: a nod to the glass-and-bronze garnitures that filled the grand salons of Napoleon III's Paris. The piece is handcrafted in Egypt by Brass & Wood artisans working in this tradition.

Dimensions & Details

Weight: 4 kg. The lower tier is the larger of the two platters, creating a stable visual base; the upper tier sits elevated on the central brass stem, separated by the foliate collar. Dimensions are available on request. The piece requires minimal assembly — the tiers are positioned onto the central stem without tools.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every piece leaving the Brass & Wood workshop is inspected for consistency of finish and clarity of crystal cut. The brass casting is done in-house, and the finishing — buffing, patination, and final assembly — is performed by hand. This is not mass production: it is the repetition of a craft process that produces objects with visible individual character.
